Calumet finishes season sweep over De Pere

2016-01-31

Byron Parks scored the game-winning goal with just under two minutes remaining in the game Saturday night at the Calumet Colosseum as the Calumet Wolverines defeated the De Pere Deacons 8-7 to finish the season sweep.

The Deacons were down by three with 11 minutes remaining in the game before storming back with three straight goals to stun the Wolverines.

Eric Bausano assisted Parks winner, part of a three-game night for the veteran winger. Parks finished with two goals in the game, while four players tallied two points. Bryan Miller moved to 3-1-0 on the season with 30 saves. The Wolverines started the weekend with a 5-4 loss to the visiting Fond du Lac Bears Friday night.

The Wolverines opened the second period with two goals in the first minute, but the Bears scored four straight to take control of the game. Calumet was able to tie the game up in the third period on a drive-to-the-net play by defenseman Josh Harju, but the Bears bounced back two minutes later to earn the win.

Harju had three points in the game while the first line of Jeff Erkkila, Parks and Bausano each had two points. The Wolverines are now 7-8-0 on the season. The team will play two on the road next weekend, traveling to Eagle River and Portage Lake.
