About
Mission
The Calumet Wolverines Hockey Club is dedicated to reinvesting in the sport of hockey and the Calumet greater area by providing a fast-paced and exciting hockey club that is heavily involved in community events.
Product
The Wolverines play in a USA Hockey-affiliated full-check hockey league with 8 other teams, including seven teams in Wisconsin. These teams are near Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison and Wausau, as well as the Wolverines arch rivals, the Portage Lake Pioneers, who play in nearby Houghton, Michigan. The hockey is the most entertaining in the area with spirited fast-paced games that include high scores, fights, and plenty of hard hits. Plus, the games are loaded with local talent. More than 80 percent of the Wolverines are alumni of Calumet High School and the Calumet Junior Hockey Association.
Economic Impact
The Calumet Wolverines host at least 10 games at the Calumet Colosseum each season, as well as practicing at least one night per week all season. After and before each game our opposing teams, and their fans, will be spending time in Calumet, supporting the local restaurants, taverns, hotels, grocery stores, gift shops, etc. Wolverine players are active members of the community. Some are students, some are professionals in the area, and some serve on local fire departments. The Calumet Wolverines are part of this community, and are proud to be an organization that help keeps it vibrant.
Community Involvement
The Wolverines value community involvement and prove that ever year by working with more than a dozen community organizations including the local hockey association, Keweenaw Krayons, Pigs-N-Heat, Keweenaw Roller Girls, U.P. Regional Blood Center and several Main Street Calumet initiatives. The Wolverines were able to help these organizations raise money and awareness at no cost, something we’re looking to continue doing. if you want us to help your organization, e-mail us, hockey@calumetwolverines.com.
Community Awareness on the rise
The Wolverines have seen unprecendented growth over the past few seasons with larger and larger crowds watching games. You’ll notice Wolverines apparel on a daily basis around Calumet. This spike in interest is due in part to additional community involvement, new media resources and relying on traditional media. The Wolverines are regularly featured on local television stations, radio stations and newspapers throughout the season, bringing back many fans that had lost interest. The reinvigorated community includes more than 1,800 followers on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.
