Wolverines looking to avenge loss to Fox Cities Friday

2019-03-06

The Calumet Wolverines will have revenge on their mind Friday night as they host the Fox Cities Ice Dogs at the Calumet Colosseum in Great Lakes Hockey League action.

Puck drop is 7:30 Friday night with the doors opening at 6:30 for $1 off drinks in the Wolverines Den until the game begins. Fans are also invited to check out local art galleries prior to the game for March Hare Madness, hosted by Main Street Calumet. Plus, if you’re looking for that extra excuse to get out to the Colosseum Friday night, be sure to stop by the GIRL SCOUT COOKIE booth. It’s going to be fun.

The game should be fun, too. The Ice Dogs are one of four teams to defeat the Wolverines this season, and were one of only four teams to defeat Calumet in Calumet during the 2018-19 season. The Ice Dogs beat the Wolverines in Appleton in late February, a loss that was a devastating blow to the Wolverines hopes of going back-to-back regular season champions.

However, the Wolverines have done nothing but win since then, including a huge 6-1 victory in Mosinee last weekend.

Calumet comes into the weekend at 9-4-0, while the Ice Dogs are at 8-6-0. Veteran forward Logan Rastello leads the Wolverines in points with 34, which is good for second in the league. His 19 goals are currently tied for first in the league. Rory Anderson is 12thin the league with 22 points, and third in the league with 17 assists.

Wolverines goaltenders Ryan Patrick and Ian Carroll have both had memorable seasons with about 4 goals against averages, good for fourth and fifth in the league. The duo is also fourth and fifth in save percentage at just under .900. Patrick currently sits second in the league with five wins, while Carroll is third with four.

The league leader in wins is the Ice Dogs’ Drew Chaney, who has seven wins in 10 games. The team’s leading scorer is Jeremy Ballard with eight goals and 21 points, good for 15thin the GLHL.
