The Wolverines defeated West Bend 8-6 at home Friday night and lost to Fox Cities 6-4 on the road Saturday night to move to 7-4-0.

Wolverines 8, West Bend 6

The win Friday night was a big one for the home team as the Wolverines avenged an early-season loss to the league-leading West Bend Bombers (8-4-0). It didn't come easy, though. The Wolverines twice came back to tie the game in the first period before going into the first break up 3-2.

Calumet then turned it on in the second period to hold a 6-3 lead after two periods. The Bombers didn't quit. With 2:04 left in the game the visitors shocked the home crowd by bringing the score to within one. Josh Harju iced the win with an empty netter in the last five seconds.

Logan Rastello and Ed Beiring earned hat tricks during the contest. Rastello also added a couple assists, while Rory Anderson put up three assists in the contest and Eric Bausano added a goal and an assist. Ian Carroll moved to 3-0-0 on the season with 22 saves.

Wolverines 4, Fox Cities 6

The Wolverines road woes continued Saturday night as the team fell to 2-4-0 on the road with a 6-4 loss to the Fox Cities Ice Dogs (7-4-0) at Appleton Family Ice Center.

The Ice Dogs jumped out to a two-goal lead midway through the first and despite a Jimmy Brey power-play marker, the Ice Dogs found themselves with a 3-1 lead after a period.

Josh Harju got one in the second period, but the Ice Dogs landed three more goals to have a commanding 6-2 lead after two periods. Mike Babcock and Maxx Fredrickson scored to bring Calumet within two, but it was far too late in the contest.

Babcock and Bausano both finished the contest with two points. Ryan Patrick made 25 saves. The Wolverines outshot the Ice Dogs in all three periods for a grand total of 42-31.  The Wolverines next home game is Saturday night against the De Pere Deacons (4-5-2). The game is one of the premiere events of Hockey Week in Calumet, which includes activities throughout the week and a spaghetti dinner Saturday during the day.
