The Calumet Wolverines got game one, and held a lead in the third period of the deciding game of the 2014 Gibson Cup Series, but the Portage Lake Pioneers once again pulled off a comeback, and won the series clincher 6-3 Saturday night at Dee Stadium.
It was a tough one for the Wolverines to bite, especially because it’s the fourth straight year the Wolverines have lost the series despite winning game one.
Calumet won game one 3-2 Thursday at the Dee with Logan Rastello scoring two goals, including the game winner. The Pioneers won game two by a 3-1 score, despite Ryan Patrick making more than 50 saves.
Josh Harju and Mike Babcock scored to give Calumet a 2-0 lead late in the first period, but the Pioneers equaled it early in the second. Josh Harju scored his second of the night late in the second period, giving Wolverines fans hope for a win. The Pioneers scored a power-play goal early in the third, and added two more to clinch the game and series.
