League-leading Rastello nets five as Wolverines salvage weekend split

2020-02-16

Another great weekend of hockey in Calumet culminated with five-goal, seven-point performance by Logan Rastello Saturday night to give the Wolverines a weekend split at home.

Friday night the Wolverines came out flat against one of the league's top teams in the West Bend Bombers, and the visitors made them pay. It was 2-0 until late in the first period when Miiko Karstu netted his second of the season.

The Bombers held a 2-1 lead after one and 3-1 lead after two. The Wolverines poured it on in the third with Rory Anderson bringing the team to within one with 15 minutes left, but the equalizer never came and West Bend grabbed an extra netter with three seconds left.  Saturday night was a whole different look as your Wolverines controlled play from start to finish, outshooting the Deacons 68-47 and winning all three periods to finish with a 12-4 win. It was the second time this season the two teams got involved in a shootout with the Deacons winning in De Pere 14-9 in January.

Rastello's big night puts him eight points up on Mosinee's Greg Hanson for the league's most points. Third place is Cody Sivonen with Portage Lake and he's 22 back of Rastello's 47 points in 16 games.

Anderson had a season high six points, including five assists. Josh Harju and Eric Bausano each had four points. Ian Carroll made 43 saves, marking his third straight outing with above a .900 save percentage.
The Wolverines play their final two home games before Gibson Cup next weekend hosting Marquette Friday night and Portage Lake Saturday night.
