Bruce "Cukie" Coppo plays in his eighth decade as Wolverines sweep
2020-02-02Bruce "Cukie" Coppo started Saturday night along with Wolverines veterans Eric Bausano and Jeff Erkkila as he played for the Wolverines franchise for his eighth decade.
The man has been with the Wolverines for a long time, last suiting up in 2010 in a similar game against the Portage Lake Pioneers. He played at least one game in the 2020s, 10s, 00s, 1990s, 80s, 70s, 60s and 50s for the Wolverines or one of our previous team names.
He didn't make a mark on the scoresheet, but he witnessed first hand as his team came back to tie the score twice in the third period and eventually netted the overtime winner by Bausano to secure four points on the weekend.
Calumet 7, Fond du Lac 6
Friday night the Wolverines got off to a hot start with a 4-0 lead after the first period. That lead nearly evamporated in the second period as the Bears came tearing back into the game. Still, after two perios Calumet held a 6-5 lead, and held on to win by one.
Logan Rastello, who leads the league in scoring, and Ed Beiring had four points each, while Jeff Erkkila had three. Bryan Miller made 28 saves to remain undefated on the season. Calumet 4, Eagle River 3 (OT)
A short bench didn't slow down the visiting Eagle River Falcons as they held 2-1 and 3-2 leads in the third period, but Calumet kept fighting back. Rastello scored to tie it at 2 early in the third and Brendan Middleton tied the game midway through the third to force overtime and setup Bausno's game winner.
Bausano finished with three points while Middleton, Beiring and Mike Babcock each earning two. Ian Carroll made 34 saves in a winning effort, marking his seventh game this season facing 37 or more shots.
