Four goal third period leads Mutineers over Wolverines

2019-10-13

The Marquette Mutineers won the inaugural Hockeyville Challenge Cup with a 8-6 victory over the Calumet Wolverines Saturday night at the Calumet Colosseum.

The Wolverines had a hot start in the game, jumping out to a 10-0 shot advantage and earning a 3-0 lead 3:18 into the second period, but the Mutineers bounced back in a big way.

Marquette took 54 of the next 75 shots and socred the game's final four goals to earn the victory.

Calumet was led offensively by Logan Rastello's four points, while Rory Anderosn and Ed Beiring also had multiple-point games. The game included Wolverines debuts for brothers Brad and Cullen Hodges. Cullen scored in the contest.

The Wolverines next games are October 25-26 in the inaugural Superior Cup in Marquette. Calumet will play Mosinee in the semifinals with a 9 p.m. start at Lakeview Arena. The team's next home game is Friday, November 1 against the Fox Cities Ice Dogs.
