Kirk Maltby to be honorary coach for Wolverines during fundraising game Tuesday
2019-09-22Hockey's oldest rivalry will renew for a new season with a Detroit Red Wings twist Tuesday night as Kirk Maltby and Drew Miller will serve as honorary coaches during the Calumet Wolverines and Portage Lake Pioneers game.
Maltby was a long-time Detroit Red Wings player, winning four Stanley Cups during his 14 years with the Wings. Maltby will be joining coach Bruce "Cukie" Coppo and his assistants Roger Rintala and Glenn Patrick.
Miller, a Michigan native, played eight seasons with the Red Wings, retiring after the 2017 season. Miller will join the Portage Lake Pioneers coaching staff for the game.
The game is a fundraising event for the Calumet Colosseum Rink Improvement Fund, and is one of many great events as part of the Kraft Hockeyville USA celebration.
