Wolverines win GLHL regular season for second straight year

The Calumet Wolverines defeated Marquette 5-2 Friday at home and Eagle River 9-3 Saturday on the road to clinch their second straight regular season Great Lakes Hockey League championship.

The Wolverines finished the regular season at 12-4-0, including 8-0-0 at the Calumet Colosseum. The final standings ended with the Wolverines, West Bend Bombers and Mosinee Papermakers all tied. The Wolverines won the tie breaker by winning more head-to-head games between the three teams.
 
The Wolverines drew the Eagle River Falcons and De Pere Deacons in their tournament bracket. They’ll play the Falcons Friday at 10:30 p.m. EST and Deacons Saturday at 9 a.m. EST. The tournament is being held in Mosinee, Wisconsin. 
 
Rory Anderson led the Wolverines Friday night with two goals and four points, including scoring the winning goal 7:37 into the second frame. Josh Harju finished with three points and Jimmy Brey had a pair of assists. Ryan Patrick made 29 saves, and finishes the GLHL regular season with a 6-3-0 record. 
 
Anderson paced Calumet again Saturday scoring three goals in a three-minute span and adding an assist. Logan Rastello, Jeff Erkkila and Mike Babcock all added three points, while Austin Rilei had his first multi-point game of the season. Ian Carroll made 30 saves and finished the regular season with a 6-1-0 record.  
 
Carroll and Patrick combined to allow a league-low 60 goals on the season. Rastello finished fourth in the league with 41 points and second in goals with 23. Anderson finished sixth in the league with 32 points and third in assists with 21.
