A lot on the line as Wolverines host West Bend Friday night
2019-02-14The Calumet Wolverines still have high hopes of winning their second straight GLHL title, and need a big win Friday to have a chance.
Friday night at the Calumet Colosseum your Calumet Wolverines (6-3-0) will have big task in front of them as they host the Great Lakes Hockey League-leading West Bend Bombers (7-3-0).
The Bombers won the GLHL regular season in 2015, 2016 and 2017, but last season the Wolverines swept the regular-season series on their way to winning the regular season championship. The Bombers got revenge in the championship game as they defeated Calumet at the Colosseum in the GLHL Tournament championship game last March.
This year the team's faced off once in West Bend in January. The Bombers took that game 7-3, but the game was closer than the score indicated with the Wolverines leading in the second period.
Calumet hasn't lost at the Colosseum this year, as they've gone 4-0 in regular season play and 3-0 in exhibiton play.
Puck drop Friday night is 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 and $1 off drinks in the Wolverines Den. Fans are also reminded that they can purchase Wolverines apparel during games by stopping by the concession stand in the rink.
The Wolverines will finish their weekend on Saturday night with their first game of the season against the Fox Cities Ice Dogs, who sit in fourth place in the GLHL standings with a 6-4-0 record.
