Wolverines look to jump up standings with two home games
2019-01-31The Calumet Wolverines are in for a big weekend as they host the Fond du Lac Bears Friday and Eagle River Falcons Saturday. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
The defending regular season champion Wolverines (4-2-0) are looking to jump from fifth in the Great Lakes Hockey League standings to as high as second as they host two GLHL rivals this weekend.
However, it won't be easy as they host the Bears (4-3-0) and Falcons (3-3-1), two teams also looking to climb their way higher in the standings.
Friday night Calumet will host Fond du Lac as they look to break a four-game losing streak to the Bears. The Bears have absolutely dominated the Wolverines in recent yeras, winning 10 of the last 11 matchups including a tournament and exhibition game. More relevent, the Bears gave the Wolverines their first loss of the season when they defeated Calumet 5-3 in Fond du Lac on January 18.
Saturday the Wolverines will take on a former division rival in Eagle River. Last year Calumet earned wins in both matchups against the Falcons. Calumet has won five straight games in Calumet between the teams.
Logan Rastello leads the Wolverines in goals and points this year with seven goals and 13 points through six games. He's tied for eighth in the league in points, but is higher in points per game as five of the players above him have played more games.
Ryan Patrick comes into the weekend in third place in goals against average at 3.40, third with wins at three and fifth in save percentage at .887. Overall the Wolverines have given up the fewest goals in the league with only 23 goals against.
