Wolverines earn two points on challenging road weekend

2018-02-25

The Calumet Wolverines almost came home with four points, but instead settled for two as the team defeated the West Bend Bombers 6-4 Friday and lost to the Fond du Lac Bears 4-3 Saturday night.

The Wolverines were down 1-0 Friday night to the Bombers but came back to own a 2-1 lead after the first frame and 4-2 lead after the second frame. The Bombers made things interesting by pulling within one goal with 10 minutes remaining, but a late Wolverines goal put an end to the comeback effort.

Ed Beiring had two goals, while Logan Rastello, Rory Anderson, Jeff Erkkila and Chuck Marcoe each scored for the Wolverines, while Ryan Patrick made 40 saves to earn the win.

Fond du Lac also got on the board first Saturday night, but the Wolverines followed a similar script to own a 2-1 lead after the first period and 3-2 lead after the second period. This time the Wolverines couldn’t hold on, though, as the Bears netted two in the third period to earn the win and the season sweep over the Wolverines.

Josh Harju had a goal and an assist, while Jeff Erkkila and Matt Yeo both had goals. Ryan Patrick made 36 saves while suffering his first loss of the season.
