Wolverines bring unbeaten home record into game vs. Fond du Lac

2018-02-01

The Calumet Wolverines have been perfect at home this season, winning all three regular season and both exhibition games, but this weekend will present the team’s biggest home challenge to date as they host the Fond du Lac Bears.

The Wolverines (12-1-0 overall, 8-1-0 Great Lakes Hockey League) are coming in after a weekend of no hockey, and look to be well rested with a full allotment of players available for the weekend. Calumet is currently tied for second in the league with 16 points, but is tied for first with West Bend in win percentage. Veteran forward Logan Rastello leads the team in scoring with 14 goals and 31 points in nine games, good for second in the GLHL. His rookie line mates Ed Beiring (nine goals and 25 points) and Rory Anderson (eight goals and 21 points) are also amongst the league leaders as the league nears its halfway point.

Goaltender Ian Carroll is expected to get the nod Saturday night. He is second in the league with three wins, while leading the team with a 4.83 goals against average and .868 save percentage.

The Bears are coming in with a 6-3-0 GLHL record, marking the first time the Wolverines have hosted a team with a winning record on the season. The Wolverines are 1-1-0 away from home against teams with a winning record. Fondy started the season with four straight wins before suffering back-to-back-to-back losses at the hands of Fox Cities, Eagle River and West Bend. The Bears have bounced back, though, beating Marquette and Monroe in the last two games. Bears forward James Goodfellow is the only player in the top 25 in scoring as he has 10 goals and 16 points. The 10 goals are good for ninth best in the league.

The Wolverines and Bears will meet at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. Doors open at 6:30 for the contest.
