Winning streak comes to end as Wolverines split road weekend
2018-01-07It was a Matt Yeo hat trick that led the way to the Wolverines 9-7 victory Saturday night in Monroe, a nice bounce back performance for a Wolverines squad that suffered a devastating 10-1 loss in Mosinee Friday night.
The Wolverines are now 6-1 in Great Lakes Hockey League play and 10-1 overall. The 6-1 record is good for a tie for first place with Mosinee. The team is off next weekend before playing at home on Friday, January 19 against the Eagle River Falcons. That night the team will be debuting the new vintage-inspired C-L-K jerseys.
The Wolverines slowly chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the game at 4 mid-way through the second period. The Wolverines and Blues exchanged goals early in the third before Yeo scored to make it 8-6 late in the period. After a late Monroe goal, Ed Beiring iced the game win an empty netter.
Ian Carroll earned the win with 43 saves. Rastello put up a season-high six points, Yeo added an assist to his hat trick for four points, Beiring and Dylan Boberg also had three-point games.
Papermakers end nine-game streak to open season
The Mosinee Papermakers scored three goals in the first, three goals in the second and added four in the third during a dominating performance at the Mosinee Recreation Center Friday night.
