Wolverines now lead GLHL after sweeping Pioneers

The Calumet Wolverines found a way to keep the wins coming this weekend as they defeated the arch rival Portage Lake Pioneers 7-6 Friday night and 8-2 Saturday night. The Wolverines are now 9-0-0 on the season, including a 5-0-0 record in Great Lakes Hockey League play.

The Wolverines will be on the road next weekend traveling to play at Mosinee and Monroe before the team’s next home game on Friday, January 19 against the Eagle River Falcons.
 

Wolverines score five straight in third period on Friday

The weekend didn’t start out well for the Wolverines as they trailed 3-1 after the first  period Friday and 5-2 after two periods, but the squad bounced back with five straight goals to start the third period and the visitors held on from there.
 
Jeff Erkkila and Logan Rastello each had two goals and three points, while the league’s leading scorer Ed Beiring put up three assists. Troy Reuter, Josh Harju and Rory Anderson also had two points each, while Bryan Miller earned the win with 31 saves.

Regular season series finishes with Wolverines domination

The tight game Friday night didn’t take on Saturday as the Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one and 7-1 lead after two en route to an 8-2 win.
 
Anderson led the Wolverines with four goals and five points, while Beiring earned his second playmaker of the weekend with three assists. Rastello finished with two points in the contest. Goaltender Ian Carroll impressed with 30 saves in the contest.
