Wolverines sweep Pioneers in first home-and-home series
2017-12-24The Calumet Wolverines and Portage Lake Pioneers renewed the oldest rivalry in style last week with plenty of goals, hits and even some fisticuffs. Ultimately the Wolverines won both contests, and will look to replicate that this weekend as the two teams play Friday and Saturday once again.
The Wolverines won 8-3 Friday night in Calumet with Logan Rastello and Ed Beiring both earning hat tricks. Ian Carroll stopped 36 to earn the victory. Rory Anderson added a goal and three assists to finish with four points. The Wolverines owned a 3-0 lead after one, and after the Pioneers tied it at 3 early in the second, the home team bounced back for five unanswered.
Saturday night the Wolverines once again jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and this time held on through the end to clinch the team’s seventh win in as many games. Josh Harju, Anderson and Rastello all scored for the Wolverines. Bryan Miller earned the win in his second appearance of the season.
The two teams will meet again next weekend with Friday’s contest at the Dee Stadium and Saturday’s at the Calumet Colosseum.
