Wolverines and Mutineers bringing GLHL to L'Anse on Friday night
2017-12-06Friday night the Great Lakes Hockey League is heading to L'Anse for a battle between the Marquette Mutineers and Calumet Wolverines, with all funds raised benefiting Meadowbrook Arena.
The game will be a homecoming for forward Alex VanWagner and goaltender Mike Turunen, both of whom are from L'Anse. For both players it will be their first time playing a competitive game in L'Anse since high school.
This will be the first of five scheduled games between the Wolverines and Mutineers, who played a total of fives games against each other during the 2016-17 season. The Mutineers won four of those five games, including an 11-4 victory in the round robin bracket of the 2017 GLHL Tournament.
Marquette is currently leading the Great Lakes Hockey League with a 4-0-1 start. The Mutineers also own the top three scorers early in the season, including last year's leading scorer Dallas McLaughlin who has 15 points through five games.
The Wolverines got off to a 2-0-0 start last weekend, led by rookies Ed Beiring and Rory Anderson. Beiring is third in the league with nine points and second in the league with six goals, while Anderson is leading the league with five points per game average.
