Wolverines end season with 0-2 performance in GLHL Tournament

2017-04-01

The Calumet Wolverines season ended in uneventful fashion as the team was swept in the Great Lakes Hockey League tournament in West Bend, Wisconsin.

The Wolverines lost to the Marquette Mutineers 11-4 and Fond du Lac Bears 8-1. The Bears ended up winning the bracket, but ultimately fell to the Mosinee Papermakers in the tournament’s semifinals.

The Wolverines were down 3-0 after one period against Marquette before battling back to make the score 5-3 midway through the second period. The team hit two posts while down by two goals, but couldn’t muster enough offense to tighten the game further. Josh Harju finished the contest with two goals.

In the Wolverines second game the team was down 3-0 after one and 6-0 after two periods of play. Evan Salmela netted the team’s lone goal.

The Wolverines finished the 2016-17 season with an 11-19-0 record, including an 11-15-0 record in GLHL regular-season play.
