Wolverines to play Marquette and Fondy in 2017 GLHL Tournament

2017-03-29

The Calumet Wolverines earned the No. 7 seed in the Great Lakes Hockey League tournament, meaning they’ll play the No. 4-seeded Fond du Lac Bears and No. 5-seeded Marquette Mutineers in round robin play.

This year’s tournament is being hosted by the West Bend Bombers, who earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the third straight season. The Wolverines round robin games will be played at the Ozaukee Ice Center, home of the Concordia University hockey team.

The Wolverines (11-15-0) were swept by the Bears (16-7-3) this season, losing 10-5 in Fond du Lac and 3-2 in Calumet. The Mutineers (14-12-0) also had the best of the Wolverines, winning three of the four games. Calumet did edge the Mutineers in total goals, outscoring Marquette 25-20 in the four games.

Calumet will play two games Friday for the tournament, playing at 11:30 a.m. against Marquette and 6 p.m. against Fond du Lac. At least one of the three teams in this bracket will earn a berth in the semifinals Saturday night at the West Bend arena.
