The Calumet Wolverines dominated their way to a 12-3 win Friday night, but succumbed to the enemy 5-4 Saturday night at Lakeview Arena against the Great Lake Hockey League’s newest team, the Marquette Mutineers.

Friday night’s contest included a hat trick for Josh Harju, two-goal nights for Tyler Loukus and Byron Parks and a 43-save night for goalie Tyler Junttila, making his first start in more than two months. It was the Wolverines first 10+ goal outburst of the season. A total off 11 players had points for the Wolverines that night.

The Mutineers responded Saturday with a great first period, jumping out to a three-goal lead after one period. The Wolverines battled back to 4-2 after two and even tied the game up late in the third period before giving up the winner in the last five minutes. Logan Rastello paced the Wolverines with two goals and Ryan Patrick made 32 saves in a losing effort.

The Wolverines have nine straight games allowing six or less goals, and have pulled the team’s goal differential to -2 after heading into the weekend -10. Saturday night’s game was Calumet’s 12th of the season that had the winning team win by only one goal. No other team has more than 7.

Calumet will play at Monroe on Saturday night next weekend.
