Wolverines down Pioneers in OT

Jeff Erkkila netted the overtime winner as the Calumet Wolverines finished 2016 with a bang defeating their biggest rivals, the Portage Lake Pioneers, 4-3 in overtime.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with markers by Byron Parks and Tyler Loukus, but the Pioneers bounced back with the next three goals.
Wayne Hyrkas tied the game up with just over two minutes left to force overtime and Erkkila’s game winner. This is the second straight time the Wolverines have defeated Portage Lake in overtime at the Colosseum as the Wolverines also won on an overtime winner by Erkkila in game two of the 2016 Gibson Cup Series.
The Wolverines are on the road next, playing at Mosinee on January 13 and at Fond du Lac on January 14. The team’s next home game is January 20 vs. the Fond du Lac Bears.
