2016-12-04

The Calumet Wolverines moved to 4-0 on the season at the Calumet Colosseum with a pair of three-goal victories over the Eagle River Falcons over the weekend. Calumet is now 4-2 on the year and will play at Dee Stadium next Saturday against the Portage Lake Pioneers

Six goal first period sparks win Friday night
The Calumet Wolverines scored six goals in the first period of Friday night’s game, including two goals by forward Alex VanWagner. VanWagner’s two goals were both on the same penalty kill midway through the period.

Josh Harju had two points in the contest as well, while Eric Bausano, Mike Babcock and Wayne Hyrkas all added goals. Bryan Miller made 35 saves in his season debut.

Hyrkas hat trick leads Saturday’s win
Hyrkas kept the momentum going Saturday night, scoring one goal in all three periods to earn a hat trick – his first in 95 games with the Wolverines dating back to the 2006-07 season.

The Wolverines once again jumped out to a big lead early in the content, up 3-0 after one, and then held a 6-2 lead after two. Byron Parks, who leads the team with 11 points in six games, finished the game with one goal and three assists. Logan Rastello, VanWagner, Harju and Ethan Larson also had multi-point games.

For Larson that gives him three points in two games in his first season with the Wolverines.

Ty Junttila made 32 saves to earn his second win of the season.
