Portage Lake bests Calumet 6-2 in series opener
2015-12-27For the third time in four games the Calumet Wolverines offense was nowhere to be found as the Wolverines fell 6-2 to the Portage Lake Pioneers in the first of at least six games the two teams will play against each other this season.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first period on the back of Peter Rouleau's two goals, then expanded the lead to 5-1 after two periods.
Justin Scott and Byron Parks scored for Calumet, while Ben Ruohonen stopped 46 of 52 shots he faced. The Wolverines are now 5-4-0 on the season. Calumet will be on the road January 8 in Marquette and January 9 in Houghton for a rematch against the Pioneers.
