The 2015-16 Great Lakes Hockey League season is kicking off with a classic matchup Friday night in Calumet as hockey’s oldest rivalry is renewed with the Portage Lake Pioneers and Calumet Wolverines set to battle at 7:30 p.m.
The Wolverines are largely returning the same roster as last year with leading scorers Levi Erkkila, Logan Rastello and Alex VanWagner all set to start the new season.
Newcomers this season include 2015 Calumet High School graduate Tyler Loukus, former Copper King state champion Joe Hyrkas and 2015 Midget BB state champion goaltender Garrett Rowe.
Only five of the Wolverines 28 players aren’t from Calumet. See the full roster here.
The Pioneers are the reigning GLHL and Gibson Cup champions. The Wolverines are looking to end an eight-game losing streak against the Pioneers that dates back to March of 2013.
Doors open at 6:30 with puck drop at 7:30. RSVP to the event on Facebook.
