The win clinched the Gibson Cup title for the Pioneers.
Calumet was outshot 24-10 in the opening frame, and found itself down 3-1 because of it. The team was able to bounce back in the second and third period, including controlling the play for much of the third period.
However, Pioneers netminder Mike Madosh was up to the challenge as he stopped 34 of the 35 Wolverines shots. The Pioneers scored two empty-net goals late in the third to finish the game.
