A crew shooting video for an upcoming documentary with VICE Media's sports division is in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula this week covering the 2015 Gibson Cup Series. The crew is telling the story of hockey's oldest rivalry, the Calumet Wolverines and Portage Lake Pioneers, who have been playing head-to-head for more than a century in a place where hockey is life for so many of its inhabitants.

The Gibson Cup is the third oldest trophy in hockey, and is awarded annually to the winner of this end-of-season best-of-three series. It's often referred to as "The Stanley Cup of the North." The rivalry for winning the Gibson Cup is as fierce as it is historic, bringing out incredible intensity from both teams on an annual basis. Read more about the history of the Gibson Cup at cchockeyhistory.org.

VICE Media, Inc. is a youth media company and digital content creation studio operating in 36 countries. VICE has recently expanded from print building out a multimedia network, including the website VICE.COM as well as a network of international digital channels, a TV and feature film production studio, record label, magazine and a book-publishing division.

The film crew arrived in the Keweenaw Monday night, and is spending the week getting to know the hockey culture of the area, including meeting with dozens of people involved in the hockey community. They'll tour the Calumet Colosseum, the oldest still-functioning indoor ice arena in the world, and the historic Dee Stadium over the coming days.

The timing is great for residents in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula as both the Dee Stadium and Calumet Colosseum have been nominated hundreds of times for Kraft's Hockeyville competition. The winner of this competition will receive $150,000 in rink upgrades, and be the host of a National Hockey League pre-season contest. Nominate the Colosseum or Dee Stadium at krafthockeyville.com.

If you'd like to share your Keweenaw hockey story, e-mail (hockey@calumetwolverines.com) or tweet (@CalWolverines) at us, and we'll help share that story. Fans are also invited to pack the arenas this weekend to show the world how much hockey means to the Copper Country community. Game times for the 2015 Gibson Cup Series are listed below.

  • Thursday, March 19, 7:30 p.m. at Dee Stadium

  • Friday, March 20, 7:30 p.m. at Calumet Colosseum [RSVP on Facebook]

  • Saturday, March 21, 5 p.m. at Dee Stadium (if needed)
