Wolverines fall to 0-4 with pair of road losses
2014-12-21The Calumet Wolverines lost a pair of road games on the weekend, losing 7-6 to the Fox Cities Ice Dogs Friday, and 4-3 to the De Pere Deacons Saturday.
Calumet scored in the final minute Friday to get within one in Appleton, but couldn’t bury the equalizer. Saturday the Wolverines watched as a 3-2 lead slipped away against the previously winless Deacons.
Logan Rastello had two goals and Levi Erkkila had three points Friday night. The Wolverines jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alex VanWagner in the contest, but Fox Cities scored the next three. The Wolverines were down 3-1 after one and 6-3 after two. Evan Salmela scored in the final minute to give the Wolverines hope, but the equalizer never came.
Calumet outshot De Pere 16-9 after the first period Saturday night and held a 3-1 lead behind two goals by Mike Babcock and one by Erkkila. The team’s offense went dry after the first despite 28 shots in the final two periods. Ryan Patrick made 33 saves in the contest.
Calumet will play Saturday, December 27 in Eagle River before playing a home-and-home against Portage Lake January 2-3.
