Wolverines comebacks fall short at Keevin Cup

2014-10-26

The Calumet Wolverines began their season this weekend with a pair of losses at the Keevin Cup tournament in Fond du Lac, Wis. The Wolverines fell 6-5 to the host Fond du Lac Bears, and then 7-5 to the Waupun Wolves.

The Wolverines are now off until the team’s home opener on Friday, Dec. 5 against the Portage Lake Pioneers.

In Friday night’s loss Ryan Patrick made 65 saves to keep the Wolverines in it until the end, and the Wolverines offense responded by chipping away at the Bears lead, eventually pulling to within one with just over a minute remaining in the game.

Saturday the Wolverines scored first, but gave up the next four goals. The comeback ended with an empty net goal for the Wolves, a team that was made up of former GLHL players. Mike Babcock scored three goals in the contest, while Tyler Froberg and Zach Babcock added one each. Jason Rank made 35 saves.
